Let's go fly a kite...

We headed to Coral Gardens on Tuesday to go for a snorkel.   Here the boys are in all their gear.  Unfortunately, the weather hasn't really been co operating since they've been here so the water was a little choppy and murkier than usual but they still managed to see some parrotfish, grunts and snappers (and even a sea cucumber!)  We will hopefully go back when the wind dies down to spot some more...

but thanks to the wind and a quick kite repair it was back to kite flying again!

as we watched the sun set...

a pretty good backdrop for any activity right?!

On Wednesday whilst By and I were at work, Cam and Kevin went on a little kayaking adventure.

They kayaked through the mangroves...

and ended up at Little Water Cay, a.k.a Iguana Island! what a whopper!

When we got in from work we headed to one of our nearby beaches and the boys went snorkelling for conch.  Here they are attempting to enter the water with their flippers on! and check out Cam's awesome Caribbean style board-shorts...pineapples and coconuts and all!

They didn't manage to find any conch this time, but we will be visiting Conch Shack next week and they have some pretty spectacular shells there!

On Wednesday evenings, us and the rest of the Island (so it seemed) headed to Tiki Hut for their Chicken 'n' Ribs night.  If there's one thing these South African boys like even better than the sun, it's ribs!

Cam and Kevin are working well on their tans, they've pretty much surpassed mine already but you can see in the pic below they've still got some catching up to do to compete with By!

Today was a bit of a washout, rain all day! which hardly ever happens here in Provo! so once the rain stopped this evening the boys headed to the dock to do some fishing...not much was biting - the weather still wasn't great so we headed home for some brownies instead!

We're hoping for a  big improvement in the weather this weekend for all the fun things we have planned!

The boys are back in town...

So the Braithwaite boys were finally reunited yesterday (minus Ja who will be hitting up the slopes of Andorra next week) and doing what they do best they headed straight to the beach.

There's no denying that they are South African through and through with their love of the sea and the sun!

Not even the choppy water could keep them away, here is Kevin diving straight in for a swim!

By and Cam were picking the best wave spot to ride the boogie board!

When we got home it was time to open up all the prezzies that were sent over for us! You can see the pure excitement on my face...check out all that English chocolate! and my cupcake tee my mom sent for me.

By's dad also had a few hours to kill in NYC on a layover and went to M&M world to buy us that bottle full! The awesome lipglosses and polka dot pumps are from my mom as are all the malteser bunnies...which are fading fast right now!

By's mom, Kathy, sent me these amazing cupcake earrings! and plenty of dairy milk to go around and By even got some little rubber duck earphones since he has a bit of a duck collection going on back home!

This morning, the wind was still going pretty strong, but it was perfect kite flying weather! So we headed to The Point with a kite By's dad had brought over from England.

By holds it in the ready position...

and all it needed was a gust of wind to send it soaring...

it kept them all entertained for about 15 minutes until unfortunately the wind got a bit too strong and it broke!

Here is Sunny and his new best friend, Cam, as I write this he is licking Cam's ear off on the sofa right now!

After that we headed to Taylor Bay for some calmer water, and some swimming and sunbathing time.

This evening, despite the wind still blowing strong, there was no better place to watch the sunset go down then 'Somewhere' our fave Mexican restaurant.

Here are the boys with their fruit punches, and By snapped this sneaky shot of me...too bad you can't see I'm wearing my polka dot pumps here too!

You have to love eating quesadilla's, listening to Gwen and watching the sun set! It was a great evening...

and I think the fact that we devoured our food within about 10 minutes proved how much we all enjoyed it!

After the sun goes down, they light up the tiki torches and turn on all the terrace lights.

How we love being able to share all these cool places with our family, it's going to be an awesome two weeks!

Sand dollars, S'mores and Sad goodbyes...and our days have run out!

Sorry to all those awaiting the update on the end of Jade's trip! It's been a busy week and I've only just got around to writing it up! On the day before she left, a trip to Fort George Cay was in order - thanks to our landlords who have their own boat!

It was a pretty good day out on the water, the sun was shining and Wally, the driver, was providing the jokes all day long!

The water was still as turquoise as ever! Jade and By got to do some snorkelling and they even managed to find some of their very own sand dollars.  The locals call Fort George Cay 'Sand Dollar Island' because apparently you can always find sand dollars there, and aren't they amazing!

Here is one that Jade found...

and here is By chilling out on the boat trip home back down the canal!  In the evening we had a beach BBQ which was awesome.

By cooked the meat on top and the jacket potatoes underneath with the coals! I liked the staging of this pic with our little pre carved s'mores sticks in the foreground!

Yes no beach BBQ is complete unless you have s'mores! Here is our friend Milah toasting the marshmallows up to perfection, she's a bit of a pro so she was designated toaster for the evening! Jade had never had a s'more before!! so we quickly changed that...

and I think the look of pure delight on her face is a testament to their tastiness!! They were pretty spectacular s'mores that we were making because we had found some toasted coconut marshmallows and some white & coconut lindt chocolate, so put it all together with some honey graham crackers and you have one gourmet s'more right there!

On the morning of her flight we stopped off at Saltmills for a tasty fry up...and a root beer float because Jade had never had one before!!! Shock horror! especially being the root beer lover she is, I had to change that! They were so good! and our breakfasts were pretty amazing too!

....and of course Jay-dee had to order some conch fritters as a side to her breakfast because she had to get her last little conch fix before she left, who knows when she will get to eat it again! When we took her to the airport her flight had been delayed by 2 hours, hooray more time to spend with us! so we took a quick detour down to Blue Hills and Jade bought some decorative conch to take home with her.

We also found out she's pretty good at blowing out a tune on the old conch shell too, Lord of the Flies style! unfortunately that picture is on her camera so you will have to wait 'til she puts it up on facebook to see for yourself! We took our last pic together by these cute little coloured huts, had a last minute drink at Sharkbite and said our sad goodbyes as we headed back to the airport again.

Jay-dee we had the best time with you, and will always treasure the memories we made! I thought at the time 6 days wouldn't possibly be long enough but we packed plenty in and I definitely got my Jade fix!

Now on to why I love Jade...we have been friends for nearly 12 years now.  We met when we were 13.  Jade was a newcomer at my school and she happened to be in my tutor base.  Back in the days of Year 8 people were deemed 'cool' by the shoes they wore to school! Lucky for Jade she was wearing the right shoes on the day that we met so I introduced myself and we hit it off, at breaktime my sister and Jade's brother Chris came to find me (they were also in the same year group) to tell me that Chris' little sister was starting at St.George's today and that I had to be nice to her! but there was no need because by the time they found us we were already friends! and how grateful I am for that pair of Kickers shoes because Jade has been the most loyal and lovely friend anyone could ask for! She must have been lovely to have put up with my shallow 13 year old self!

All my old school pictures of us together are back in England so you'll have to make do with these more up to date versions, they're far less embarrassing anyways!

I've always loved the quote 'Wherever you are, it is your friends who make your world' and Jade is living proof of this.  We've lived in different areas and different countries many times! In the picture above Jade was about to leave for a year of working in Singapore.  When I was 18 I spent my first year of university in Stirling, Scotland.  Jade mega-bused it the 8 hours to come and visit me even turning up in an 'I love William Wallace' homemade T-shirt to try and make the peace between the Scots and the English! It was an eventful visit that led to her being kicked out of my halls of residence (it was exam period so no overnight guests were permitted and we got busted sneaking her in) and us having to roam the scottish villages at 1am looking for a B&B to stay in but with no luck ended up having to sleep all night on the chairs in my psychology building on campus!

When I was at university in Reading she came to visit me and I was able to introduce her to her first ever Shakeaway milkshake!!! It was such a momentous occasion we had to take a pic (sorry it was on my phone!) in fact there have been many firsts we have shared together like her first ever trip to Scotland, as mentioned above and I also was there to experience Jade's first ever Krispy Kreme experience at Harrod's!

Jade shared my first ever cupcake hunt in London with me and our friend Laur and her recent trip with us here was full of firsts: first time scuba diving, first time trying a s'more, a root beer float, fish taco's, jerk chicken, conch and first time experiencing waters as turquoise as these and beaches as beautiful as they are!!

This picture here is when we were reunited after Jade returned to England from Singapore...no doubt there will be a similar one taken when I return to England in less than a month! and I'm pretty sure a cupcake feast will be involved in that homecoming too!

I couldn't ask for a better friend than Jay-dee and hope that in the future we will have many more firsts together and get to travel to many more places to visit one another!!

Chilling on the beach, Colada smoothies and crazy amounts of conch...and it's only day 4!

We had planned to go kayaking on day 4 but when we woke up the wind was pretty crazy and it would have made for quite hard work to kayak across the channel, not that you would know it from the pictures of the crazy calm water above! so we opted for a beach day instead, which pleased Jade greatly as it meant Sunny was allowed to come too!

Jade is very well travelled...we made her list today, 34 countries and counting! so for her to say that Provo has the best beaches she has ever seen is a pretty big compliment! in the picture above though it's not hard to see why!

Bang on with our colour co-ordination again! those who've travelled with Jade before will know that posing for this shot was a bit nerve wracking for Jay-dee as it involved climbing over rocks!

Jade's been taking plenty of 'family pics' of the 3 of us while she has been here...

and of course she's been getting involved too! Sunny is one adored potcake! or cake pot as Jade would say!

Jade was so impressed with her first patty she tried the other day that she requested more of them for lunch! This time we went to Chinson's and persuaded Jade to get a chicken loaf instead...and to try some coco bread - both are amazing! and it was nice to sit outside, listen to some Bob and chow down.

Jade's first experience with a drive through atm!

and her first experience with a smoothie from froots! We both opted for the pina colada - and wow I forgot how good those smoothies are, it had been far too long!

We whizzed back to Pelican Beach in time to catch the Sunset...

that is pure delight on Jade's face right there!

I promise this picture is not fake...it looks like it is but it's just because the colours were so crazy vivid and we managed to catch a particularly amazing sunset that night!

We ended the night at Da Conch Shack.  Jade was having trouble deciding so she went for the conch combo platter...a great intro to all things conch!

We took a walk on the beach whilst waiting for our food, and were amazed to discover all the conch shells in the sea!

and here is the pile of discarded conch shells after the conch has been removed...check out the awesome pink colour on the inside of the shell!

It was a great night...great food, great company, great atmosphere!

and Jade has definitely become a conch convert!
